We’ve put together a concise factsheet highlighting the most important aspects of the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation. Now is the time to prepare for the regulatory requirements, as the new legislation came into force on 18 July 2024, with the first product group-specific settings expected by 2026.
The Ecodesign Regulation promotes the integration of environmental considerations and life-cycle thinking into product design. Building on the Commission’s Sustainable Products Initiative, published on 30 March 2022, it will replace the current Ecodesign Directive with a more comprehensive regulation. Key updates include an increased focus on circular economy principles—emphasising product durability, recyclability, and the introduction of digital product passports.
